All-Conference Honorees to Be Honored at Championship Luncheon Friday

Hampton, VA - Two student-athletes from the Johnson C. Smith University football team were announced apart of the 2009 All-CIAA First and Second Teams as released by the conference office Thursday afternoon.

On the All-CIAA Offensive First Team, junior receiver Jeremy Franklin (Casselberry, FL) was honored for the third consecutive season (2007-09). Junior safety Lawyer Montgomery (Buffalo, NY) earned second team honors as a first time all-conference selection.

Franklin (6'3, 200 lbs) ended his junior season ranked first in the CIAA in All Purpose yardage with 1382 yards. He is second in the conference in receptions per game (averaging 5.3 catches) and third in receiving yards per game (averaging 73 yards). Franklin had the most kick return yardage with 628 yards off 25 returns. He finished with 610 receiving yards off 48 receptions and five touchdowns, along with 143 yards in punt returns. Franklin currently has 2,331 receiving yards and 151 catches for his career at JCSU. 

Montgomery (6'2, 190 lbs) ranked fourth in the CIAA for total tackles with 82 (53 solo, 29 assists). He had a team-high three interceptions with 29 return yards and 2.5 tackles for a loss of 17 yards. This was a breakout season for Montgomery, who also had five pass break ups and one forced fumble.

The CIAA players of the year and the All-CIAA teams, voted on by the league's coaches and sports information directors, will be recognized at the CIAA Football Championship Luncheon on Friday, Nov. 6th at the Durham Marriott Civic Center in Durham, NC. The luncheon starts at 11:00 am.
