Charlotte, NC - Johnson C. Smith University recognized the athletic and academic accomplishments of its student-athletes at the Annual Athletic Banquet, held on Monday evening (April 26th) inside the Grimes Lounge on the campus of JCSU. Senior Demetria Bell (Indianapolis, IN) and junior Leford Green (St. Catherine, Jamaica) were honored with Pettis Norman Award as the female and male student-athletes of the year, respectively.

The Voice of the Golden Bulls, Mr. Otis Stroud was the master of ceremony and presided over the event.

Demetria Bell was the only Lady Golden Bull named to 2009-10 All-CIAA team this season. She finished the season ranked 3rd in the CIAA in rebounding (averaging 7.9 rpg) and 8th in conference for field goal percentage (46.1%).

Bell, a member of the women's basketball team, was named Preseason All-CIAA this season and recorded four double-doubles. She played in 23 games and started 22. Bell has produced 955 points and 866 rebounds in her four-year career at Johnson C. Smith.

Bell has been a Dean's List scholar at Johnson C. Smith University for the past three years. She was elected Student-Athlete Advisory Committee president and chosen to be a women's basketball team captain. In addition, Bell serves her community through efforts at Habitat for Humanity and through projects with her sorority Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. She is also a Spanish tutor at Johnson C. Smith. Bell was a finalist for the Lowe's Senior Class Award this year.

Leford Green earned his third All-American honors in NCAA indoor track and field. Green established a new personal best in the 200m and the fastest collegiate performance in the nation (20.41 seconds). This season, Green has produced automatic qualifying times for the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 400m. He opened his outdoor season with a brisk 45.88 seconds to smash the Aggie Relay meet record. The time is an automatic qualifying time for the NCAA Outdoor Championships and leads Division II qualifiers. The time is fourth across all divisions.

At the CIAA Outdoor Championships, Leford Green was named Championship MVP, for the second consecutive season. In addition to performing so well on the track this year, Green is also a 3.9 GPA student majoring in Information Systems Engineering.

Senior Jason Stuckey (Men's Tennis) and junior Nikki Boston (Women's Track & Field/Cross Country) received the Coca-Cola Academic Award as the male and female senior student-athletes with the highest grade point average.

Stuckey, a business administration major, competed in No. 1 singles and doubles with partner and co-captain Hutcherson all season for JCSU. He ended his 2010 campaign 16-9 and 9-3 in the CIAA for singles action. Stuckey is ranked 2nd in the CIAA for number one singles leaders and 10th for all singles.

He was one of three All-CIAA selections from the Golden Bulls tennis team. Stuckey led JCSU to the finals match in the 2010 CIAA Championships. He has excelled as a broadcaster for the JCSU communications department. Stuckey has a 4.00 grade point average.

Nikki Boston has earned All-American honors in Indoor Track and Field for the 4x400m relay and 400m hurdles events. She is currently ranked No. 2 in NCAA Division II for the 400m hurdle event and achieved an automatic qualifying time (60.67) for the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Boston is a scholar student-athlete with a 3.94 grade point average. She represented the JCSU Department of Computer Science and Engineering with her NASA project on Modeling of Catalyst: GaussView/Gaussivan03 Modeling of Fischer-Tropsch Reaction. Despite having another year of athletic eligibility, Boston has earned enough academic credits to complete her degree as an early graduate.

In addition to honoring the student-athletes, the following organizations received the Athletic Director's Service Award for their continued support of the University: 100 Club, Alumni Luv-A-Bull Cheerleaders, Amtrak, Charlotte Alumni Chapter (J.C.
