Charlotte, NC – Johnson C. Smith University head women’s tennis coach
James Cuthbertson, Jr. has announced the National Letter of Intent signing of Felecia Nicole Akande of Parkland High School in Winston Salem, NC and Keina Love of James B. Hunt High School in Wilson, NC to play for the Golden Bulls in the fall. Both signees played number one singles at their respective schools.
Akande is a native of Winston Salem, NC and also swam in addition to playing number singles at Parkland. Coach Cuthbertson expressed his thoughts on Akande joining the squad.
“We are very happy to have a player with Felecia’s potential,” said Cuthbertson. “This will help us in our goal to reach the top of our conference and to make the NCAA playoffs. She has a great all around game and really hits the ball well. She is an all court player with a tremendous serve. We are excited to have Felecia aboard as we seek to make our team even better.”
Love, though born in Sullvach-Rosenburg, Germany, is a native of Wilson, NC. Cuthbertson also shared his opinion on Love coming to JCSU.
“We are happy to have Keina in our fold,” said Cuthbertson. “This will help us to rapidly improve our team. She has great skills. Keina is a net player, has a good serve, and good overall movement on the court. She will help our program improve remarkably.”
The Golden Bulls finished the regular season 14-11 overall, 12-3 in the CIAA, and placed third at the CIAA Tennis Championships. JCSU produced two All-CIAA selections and the conference rookie of the year this season.
Felecia is the daughter of Richard and Tangela Akande of Winston Salem, NC. Keina is the daughter of Terence and Vanessa Love of Wilson, NC.
