Miramar, FL – Johnson C. Smith University rising junior Rosemarie Carty (St. Andrew, Jamaica) completed her 2010 outdoor season by participating at the North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) U23 Championships on July 9-11, 2010 at the Ansin Sports Complex Miramar, Florida. Carty represented her home country of Jamaica by competing in the women's 100m hurdles and 4x100m relay, which she earned two medals at the 2010 Championships.
On Friday evening, Carty took home the bronze by placing third in the 100m hurdles final; which was won by 2010 NCAA Division I runner-up Tierra Brown of the University of Miami. Carty's time of 13.22 was her best ever over the distance, but was denied a personal best (PB) by a +2.3 m/s wind (slightly over the allowable limit (2.0)). Carty thus ended her season on a high note in her preferred event.
She also competed as a part of Jamaica's 4x100m women quartet on Saturday afternoon. Carty ran the lead off leg to earn a silver medal (44.20) behind the United States of America's team. The 4x100m team included Samantha Henry (LSU), Tricia Ann Hawthorne (UCONN) and Audra Segree (Holmwood Technical High School).
“Rosemarie has worked very hard during her time at JCSU and it has paid off in the classroom and on the track,” said head coach Lennox Graham. “She has represented the University and Jamaica quite well and I look forward to continuing to help her develop.”
Carty now earns a well deserved break before starting her junior year in August.
