Landover, MD - The Johnson C. Smith University men's track and field team finished sixth with 42 points at the 2012 Terrapins Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland inside the Prince George's Sports Complex. The Golden Bulls had a great weekend of indoor throwing.

Defending CIAA triples champion, sophomore Randale Watson (Kingston, Jamaica) produced his best meet yet since arriving at Johnson C. Smith. Watson heaved the shot put above his personal best (15.21m) with just three attempts.  At the end of the competition, he placed second with a new PB of 16.07m.

Junior Andre Collins (Kingston, Jamaica) remained in good form with a third place finish in the 60m hurdles.  Collins' time of 8.03 was 1/100th of a second above his season best performance. He returned with a time of 24.47 (PB) in the 200m. Collins was accompanied in the event by junior Winston Brown (St. Andrew, Jamaica) 23.66 and freshman Rajiv Service (Trelanny, Jamaica) 23.92.

Junior Akino Ming (Portland, Jamaica) ran his first open 400m of the 2012 season and won the event in 49.75 seconds. Sophomore Rolando Berch (St. Andrew, Jamaica) 50.76 and Brown 51.77 finished fourth and eighth, respectively in the event.

All three JCSU starters in the 800m achieved best times. Junior Jamille Callum (Orleans, MA) 2:01.12 improved on his time last week to earn a season best.  Freshman teammates Geovanie Foote (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) 2:01.43 and Nyquan George (Charlotte, NC) 2:09.69 both achieved personal bests in the event.  Their performances were good enough for 17th, 24th, and 40th, respectively.

Foote (5:00.15) and Callum (5:02.74) returned in the mile accompanied by junior Kent King (Pittsburgh, PA) 5:03.34. King also ran in the 3000m, finishing in 10:37.60.

The 4x400m team of Brown, Foote, Callum and Ming placed third in 3:23.49. Sophomore Jordan Broome (Manchester, CT) measured 5.94m in the long jump, which is his indoor personal best.

JCSU should be encouraged by this week's performances as they travel to State College, PA to compete in the Penn State National meet on Friday Saturday January 27, 2012.
