Jovontay Williams is the only Golden Bull with First Team honors

Hampton, VA – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) announced their selections for the 2013 All-CIAA Football First and Second Teams. Four Johnson C. Smith University football student-athletes were selected; junior defensive end Jovontay Williams headlines as a First Team Defensive Lineman. Senior Rico Arellano and juniors Anthony Allen and Keahn Wallace were selected to the All-CIAA Second Team at the offensive lineman, linebacker, and quarterback positions, respectively.

Williams (Stone Mountain, GA) has been named to the All-CIAA First Team in his first season at JCSU. Williams has accumulated 31 tackles (20 solo), 14.5 tackles for a loss of 103 yards, 12.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. He ranks third in the nation (Division II) for Pass Sacks per Game (1.1), second in the CIAA for Total Sacks (12.5), and tied for second in the CIAA for Forced Fumbles.

Allen (Lithonia, GA) has earned All-CIAA honors for the first time in his career. This season, Allen led the Golden Bulls in tackles with 77 total (55 solo). He also recorded nine tackles for a loss of 32 yards, 2.5 sacks, and two fumble recoveries. Allen ranks sixth in the CIAA for Total Tackles. He had a season-high 16 tackles (12 solo) against NCAA Division I Davidson College earlier this year. Allen collected CIAA Linebacker of the Week for the week ending September 21st.

Arellano (Charlotte, NC) has picked up All-CIAA honors for the third time in his four-year career. He was named to the 2013 All-CIAA preseason team. Arellano was instrumental in the JCSU offense producing 3,962 yards of total offense at the right tackle position. The Golden Bulls offense ranks fifth in the conference for average yardage per game with 396.2 yards in a ten-game season.

Wallace (Miami, FL) earned All-CIAA honors for the second time in his career. This season, Wallace passed for 1,950 yards, completing 171-of-276 attempts. He had 15 passing touchdowns and seven interceptions. Wallace also rushed for four touchdowns in nine games played. This is the first season Wallace has not passed for over 2,000 yards.

JCSU finished their season with a 5-5 overall record and 2-5 mark in CIAA competition. Their record puts them at a fifth place finish in the CIAA Southern Division for the 2013 season. The complete list of All-CIAA First and Second Team honorees is included: Click Here
