The spring schedule has begun for the 2014 season
Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University football team has announced their spring practice and scrimmage schedule. The Golden Bulls returns to the field this spring for training sessions and scrimmages to prepare for the 2014 season. JCSU returns 45 student-athletes to the squad and look to fill the void of 24 seniors.
"We want to continue to grow our young men and continue to graduate them," said JCSU head football coach
Steven Aycock. "Football is important of course, but we expect our guys to leave Johnson C. Smith University and be different than when they came. We try to prepare our guys to be better citizens, as well as great players while here."
JCSU will host their annual Gold-Blue Intra-squad Spring Game on April 7th at 7:00pm on Eddie C. McGirt Field at the Irwin Belk Complex. The Gold-Blue Game concludes the team's spring practice season. This event is free and open to the public.
The Golden Bulls finished 5-5 overall and 2-5 in CIAA play this past season with several players earning individual honors and accolades. Rising senior defensive end
Jovontay Williams (Stone Mountain, GA) earned All-American honors from the Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN) and HBCU Gameday affiliates, in addition to All-CIAA First Team accolades.
Fellow rising seniors
Keahn Wallace (Miami, FL) and
Anthony Allen (Lithonia, GA) received All-CIAA Second Team honors at the quarterback and linebacker positions, respectively.
JCSU football will open the 2014 regular season against nearby Division I UNC-Charlotte on Saturday, September 6th at Jerry Richardson Stadium on the campus of UNCC.

* All practices will be open to the public and will take place at practice field near the tennis courts. Those who attend will be asked to stay out of the immediate practice areas during the practices and scrimmages.
