Highest rankings this season

New Orleans, LA - The Johnson C. Smith University women's outdoor track and field team has been ranked number one in the most recent U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches (USTFCCCA) Division II Outdoor National Team Computer Rankings, which were released Tuesday, April 1st.

As more and more Division II teams hop into action in this 2014 outdoor track & field season for the first time, the picture becomes clearer and clearer in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II National Team Computer Rankings.

The National Team Computer Rankings for Division II are a reflection of performances that have been recorded only during the 2014 outdoor track & field season. While some teams have been competing outdoors since February and many more opened up their spring campaigns this past weekend, still others have yet to compete outside in 2014.

The Golden Bulls had superb performances at the Raleigh Relays last weekend. JCSU holds the top spot nationally in four events. Junior sprinter Samantha Elliott (Kingston, Jamaica) has been named the Division II National Track Athlete of the Week (for the week ending April 5, 2014). She has the NCAA Division II best time in the 400 meters (54.92), 400 meters hurdles (57.52), and the 100 meters hurdles (13.28) events.

The foursome of sophomore Shamaz Quince (West Palm Beach, FL), senior Danielle Williams (St. Andrew, Jamaica), sophomore Trudy-Ann Richards (St. Thomas, Jamaica), and Elliott hold the top time (45.56) in the nation for the 4x100m relay event. The 4x400m relay quartet of Elliott, freshman Domenique Julius- Williams (Ontario, Canada), freshman Crystal Campbell (St. Catherine, Jamaica), and Williams have the second best time in Division II (3:41.76).

A complete listing of the national rankings can be viewed at www.ustfccca.org.

JCSU track and field will head to Auburn, Alabama to compete in the 2014 Auburn Invitational held April 4-5th.
