FootballNC A&T Aggies Earn First Win in Three Years, Defeat JCSU 44-12
Aug. 30, 2008
North Carolina A&T State University (1-0) earned their first victory in nearly three years with a 44-12 win over Johnson C. Smith University (0-1). The Aggies rushed for 291 yards while holding the Golden Bulls to 252 yards en route to the victory. The Bulls, playing without several crucial players made their way up Interstate 85 with upset on their minds. The Aggies, however, looking to break the win column since October of 2005 had winning all over their minds. Despite several miscues by both teams, A&T displayed their running ability scoring four touchdowns on the ground. For the Golden Bulls, Lawyer Montgomery (Buffalo, N.Y.) led the defensive attack with 12 total tackles. Senior quarterback Carlton Richardson (Columbia, S.C.) completed 12 of 32 pass attempts for 157 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore Markus Gray (Newberry, S.C.) came just two yards shy of going over the century mark. The tight end caught 5 passes for 98 yards and a score. Short field positioning definitely helped the Aggie attack as A&T blocked two JCSU punts. "We just didn't execute," remarked head coach Daryl C. McNeill, Sr. "We gave up 28 points- easily, you take away those miscues and the score is 16-12." Next week, JCSU will head to Ettrick, Virginia to take on Virginia State University in a non-conference match-up while A&T will host the Rams of Winston-Salem State University.
