Golden Bulls Volleyball Fall to Concord in Season Opener, 3-0

Final Stats

The Johnson C. Smith University 2008-09 athletics season kicked off with the volleyball team hosting the Lady Lions of Concord University. Concord defeated JCSU three games to none (25-13, 25-9, 25-14) in the season opener for both schools.

Freshman Jasmine Parker (Durham, N.C.) led the attack for the Golden Bulls with five kills and four digs. Sophomore Shawntanna Proctor (Shelby, N.C.) added three kills and seven digs in the loss.

Sophomore outside hitter Amber Miller led all offensive players with 10 kills on 19 attempts. Lindsey Sheppard and Kelly Newberry chipped in 12 and 10 digs respectively.

The win improves Concord to 1-0 while JCSU drops to 0-1. The Golden Bulls will hit the road for the next 3 ½ weeks beginning with the Paine College Tournament on September 5 in Augusta, Georgia. JCSU will play Brewton-Parker College at 2:15 pm followed by Paine College at 5:45 pm.
