Final Stats

In Shaw's first volleyball match as a member of the CIAA's western division, it was the Lady Bears over Johnson C. Smith 3-0. The first game saw the Lady Bears dominate all aspects of the game ending the first stanza 30-16. In the second game, JCSU played tough defense going point for point with the Lady Bears. After a timeout by Shaw with the score knotted at 13-all, the Lady Bears went to work and finished the rest of the game winning by a score of 30-23. In the third and final game, it was a battle all the way to the end. With a little motivational help by the JCSU football team, the ladies looked relaxed and poised. Unfortunately, the Lady Bears pulled through and ended the game 30-24.

Leading the way for the Lady Golden Bulls was the freshmen duo of Ashley Young-Jones and Jasmine Oliver. Young-Jones had a team high nine kills and eight digs. Oliver chipped in six solo blocks. Venessa Roy registered four blocks in the loss.

Sharetta Riggins and Nikita Grant delivered nine kills each in the victory. Setter Jade Bibb dished out 35 assists.

The win improves Shaw to 1-4 overall, 1-0CIAA while JCSU falls to 0-3 overall, 0-2 CIAA.

JCSU moves on to participate in the University of Charleston, W.Va. Volleyball Tournament this weekend, September 7-8, in Charleston, W.Va.
