JCSU Defeats Spelman in Volleyball, 3-1



Venessa Roy's Triple Double Leads JCSU Past Spelman

Venessa Roy had 14 kills, 11 service aces, and 11 digs to lead her team to a 3-1 victory over the visiting Lady Jaguars of Spelman College. In each of the first two games, JCSU came from behind to win 31-29 and 30-27. Spelman would take game four in a tight battle 30-27. JCSU rebounded however, and rallied to win 30-26.

The twin towers of Jasmine Oliver and Ashley Young-Jones who stand at 6-2 and 6-0 used their height to drop the Lady Jaguars. Oliver had 15 kills while Young-Jones contributed 10 and nine kills.

For the Lady Jaguars, Jacqueline Jordan led the way with 12 kills while Brittni Bryant and Jerez Roberson chipped in 11 each.

The win improves JCSU to 5-13 overall while Spelman drops to 3-8 overall. Smith moves on to play Allen University on Monday, October 1, 2007. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in Columbia, S.C.

Notes of Interest: JCSU will play their final home contest on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 against the Saint Augustine's Lady Falcons. This will also be senior night as the gold and blue bids farewell to Venessa Roy, Anika Pimentel, and Nicole Villarreal.
